August 2010 ESOB Bristol Open, Bristol UK
2009 Champion: Lawrence Powell, UK
2009 runner-up: Martin Barkwill, UK
The fifth Bristol Open joins the umbrella of the ESOB in August, currently scheduled to be the final event of the ESOB Tour.
While the pros will battle it out for a hefty chunk of the guaranteed £10,000 prize fund, the event is also open to backgammon players of all abilities, with separate cash-prize competitions for intermediate and advanced players.
Event coordinators Ian Tarr and Roland Herrera last year welcomed such giants of backgammon as Japan’s current World Champion Masayuki ‘Mochy’ Mochizuki, ex-World Champion Philip Vischjager, current #9 Giant Michihito Kageyama and former Danish #1 Player Mikael Jensen. Lawrence Powell was crowed 2009 champion.
