ESOB offline events
The ESOB comprises many offline events that are sponsored by our online partners. The ESOB is not a tour, there is no grand final and players do not earn points at various events. The ESOB is designed to bring established tournaments under one creditable brand and bring the game of backgammon to a larger audience through its partner sites.
Below are the confirmed ESOB events for 2010. The majority of these events will also have online satellites through which you can qualify through.
March 2010 : 11th Annual Scope Backgammon and Bridge Tournament, London, UK
The Backgammon community will come together on 7th March at the RAC Club, Pall Mall in order to raise money for Scope. Over £20,000 was raised last year. The main event is a £250 buy in limited to 16 players. There is also a Championship flight limited to 64 players.
March 2010 : The 11th Scottish Open, Edinburgh, UK
The 11th instalment of the Scottish Open returns to the Barceló Carlton Hotel which is situated on the Royal Mile, just minutes from the world-famous Princes Street in the heart of Edinburgh.
April 2010 : The 22nd Nordic Open, Copenhagen, Denmark
This Easter will see the 22nd Nordic Open take place in its traditional format. There are 8 seats to be won online worth €800 each. Satellites are running now from €5.50.
April 2010 : The 19th British Open, Hinckley, UK
The 19th British Open wil take place in April at the Barcelo Hinckley Hotel, with about 100 entrants expected who from the UK, Italy, Germany and Japan competing in this long running and established tournament.
June 2010 : ESOB Zakynthos Backgammon Festival, Zakynthos, Greece
The wonderful island of Zakynthos hosts this Backgammon Festival which includes 6 days of match play gammon and 6 nights of tournament format. Run by professional players, who also give tips and coach amateur players how to improve their game, this festival is real entertainment.
July 2010 : BIBA World Championships, Hinckley, UK
This event takes place in the 1st weekend in July and is the jewel in the crown of BIBA. Last year Chris Ternel beat Adrian Jones 11-8 to take the title and the £1,000 first prize.
August 2010 : ESOB Bristol Open, Bristol UK
The the fifth Bristol Open promises some of the most competitive action of the ESOB’s UK tournaments and has a genuine international feel and flavour with some of the best players in the world descending in the West of England for this event.
September 2010 : The ESOB London Open, UK
A fantastic addition to the ESOB, The London Open is only its second year but was a big hit last year. An impressive field of 100 players is expected to compete in the British Capital’s flagship backgammon event.
How to Register/Qualify for ESOB events
Online qualifiers will be held for some of these tournaments and will be announced across the full range of ESOB’s network of websites. Enter the games lobby on any of these sites and click on the ‘tournament’ tab for Backgammon. There you will find at any time qualifiers and satellites for all the ESOB offline tournaments and the ESOB online championship tournaments. Qualifiers and satellites are priced between €2 and €220 for packages to offline events worth several thousands.
Upcoming Online Qualifiers
There will be NO online qualifiers to the ESOB Zakynthos Backgammon Festival, Zakynthos, Greece or the BIBA World Championships, Hinckley, UK . There may be qualifiers to the 7th Riviera and Nations Cup, Cannes.
Any details regarding qualifiers will be posted here as soon as a decision is made.
